Meet Amanda Tyson — 2014 Wounded Veteran

Amanda Tyson joined the Army in November 2007. She completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, then AIT at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, graduating as a combat medic. Her first duty station was Fort Wainwright, Alaska, assigned to the 25th SBCT, BSMC Co.

Just three months later she was in Iraq at FOB Warhorse where she spent a year working at the Aid Station, supporting missions and providing medical coverage during convoy operations. She instructed members of the Iraqi Army and Iraqi police in Basic Life Support. Amanda endured multiple mortar attacks and the loss of several unit members during her tour.

After Iraq, she was stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. While there she was diagnosed with a tear in the cartilage in her left hip and had a surgical repair. She never fully recovered from the injury and was no longer able to run. After being placed on a permanent no running profile she decided to leave the service and was honorably discharged.
