Meet Bethany Ferry, A.N.G. — 2021 Veteran
SSGT Bethany Ferry enlisted in the United States Air National Guard at Barnes Air National Guard Base in 1998. She served honorably from 1998-2004. SSGT Ferry enlisted with the Maintenance Squadron as a Machinist and Welder for the A-10 Warthog.
She then transferred into the Military Equal Opportunity Office where she focused on improving the military climate for women and minority service members and created a base-wide Women's Council. She also wrote articles for the base newsletter focused on diversity and inclusion.
SSGT Ferry was deployed in 1999 as part of Operation Desert Anvil, the Kosovo Campaign. She received the Kosovo Campaign medal related to her service. SSGT Ferry is also the recipient of two Honorable Achievement medals related to her achievements as a welder and machinist.
SSGT Ferry subsequently attended Smith College as an Ada Comstock Scholar and achieved High Honors, graduating with a degree in Psychology. SSGT Ferry worked as a civilian in the social work field before returning to Smith College and completing a Master's degree in Social Work.
SSGT Ferry focused her degree program on Women Veterans and completed a thesis on Women Veterans health care. This thesis was published and is available for review through Smith College.
SSGT Ferry also completed extensive training working with fellow veterans by completing an internship at the Uniformed Services program at Brattleboro Retreat. She also completed an internship at the Western and Central Massachusetts Department of Veterans Affairs in Northampton, Massachusetts. SSGT Ferry completed her internship at the Specialized Inpatient PTSD Unit on Ward 8.
SSGT Ferry continues her interest in serving other veterans and has set her sights on addressing policy related to veterans.
