Meet U.S. Army Sergeant Chris Holem — 2015 Veteran
Meet U.S. Army Sergeant Chris Holem
Sergeant Holem entered the Army in 1999 as a 12 Bravo Combat Engineer. He left the Army due to asthma in 2004 as his main health concern was Scud missiles with chemical war heads. He had to watch all his Battle Buddies leave without him.
See Chris' video on our Videos page.
In 2007 Sergeant Holem was finally able to get back into the Army. He ended up in 4th BSTB, 4th BCT, 1CD and deployed to northern Iraq, Coz Merez/Diamondback, or Mosel. He served as the Pl's driver, then as a 50cal gunner and as the Pl's ground protection when he had to speak to local elders. His Company C CO cleared more miles in country then any other route clearance packages and found more IEDs then any other previous RPCs had in past years. While not outside the wire they also aided EOD with evidence collection of incoming mortar and rocket attacks.
Sergeant Holem's next deployment was to northern Afghanistan in the Helmend providence along Route 1 straight into Pakistan. As a team leader/squad leader he was a driver of a Husky with ground penetrating radar, then as a TC in a RG31/Buffalo. Upon his return to Ft. Hood he began his behavior health which lead to his diagnosis of PTSD and depression leading to two separate stays at behavioral mental health vacation centers. His last day in the Army was July 21, 2015.
Sergeant Holem has a wife named Katherine, to whom he has been married 13 years, and one son, Christopher C.J. Holem.
