Meet Donald Hontz, U.S. Army — 2024 Veteran
Donald Hontz was born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania in 1976. Spending the early part of his life in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he graduated high school from Pottsville High in 1995. While a Junior in high school Donald joined the Army Reserves to get a head start on his Army career. He attended basic training the summer between his Junior and Senior year of high school. During his senior year he enlisted active duty and two weeks after graduation he departed his hometown to attend AIT to become an Engineer.
Donald's career consisted of multiple duty stations ranging from FT Bragg, North Carolina, where he was stationed twice, to Kitzegen, Germany with other stops along the way. At one of these stops, he became a recruiter in Pensacola, Florida. During Donald's time in the Army he served in numerous deployments supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).
From 1995 until his medical retirement in 2016, Donalds' career consisted of: being an Engineer and a Communicator supporting units ranging from the 82nd ABN DIV, 1 INF DIV 18th ABN CORP, 95th CA BDE and the SOC community. His responsibilities included being Team Sergeants, PLT Sergeant, Section Sergeant, and Commo Chief for an RC while deployed supporting Operation Enduring Freedom while assigned to 4th BCT 82 ABN DIV from 2006-2010.
Among the top awards and achievements Donald earned are the coveted Recruiting ring, Humanitarian Service Medal, multiple MSMs, Sapper Leader course graduate, and Jumpmaster. Donald Hontz ended his career assigned to the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade, retiring at the rank of SFC. Donald has an amazing wife and three great children. Donald's oldest son followed in his footsteps and joined the Army, went Airborne and so far has been assigned to the 82nd ABN DIV, 173 ABN DIV and 1st SFG GRP.
