Meet Gene Baxley, U.S. Army — 2023 Veteran

Gene "Dusty" Baxley began active service with the U.S. Army in 1973. After training, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division where he served until 1980, assigned to the 82nd Military Police Company in direct support of the Division Jump TOC & the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

From 1980 to 1983 he was assigned to the Recruiting Command where he was the SE Region Rookie & Recruiter of the Year.

From 1983 to 1986 he was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division in Hanau, Germany as a Platoon Sergeant for Security at NATO Site 5.

From 1986 to 1992 he was again assigned to the 82nd ABN DIV and served in the 82nd MP Company in support of 505th PIR and a few years as a Combat Operations Sergeant in the DIV G-3.

During this period, Baxley was the Operations Security NCOIC for the Jump TOC. In 1989 he parachuted into the invasion of Panama. While in that role he earned a Gold Combat Star for his Master Parachutist Badge. During that period Baxley also deployed to Desert Shield & Desert Storm with the 505th PIR for the defense of Saudi Arabia and the subsequent Invasion of Iraq.
