Meet Captain George Riley — 2016 Veteran
Captain Riley was born and raised in Southern New Jersey and grew up in Somerdale, New Jersey. He enlisted into the Army in 1991 and completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, followed by Chemical Advanced Individual Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama and Basic Airborne Training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant into the United States Army on 22 August 2008 through OCS. Upon completion of Officer Candidate School Captain Riley attended the Chemical Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and was subsequently assigned as the CBRN Officer for 10th Special Force Group (Airborne) where he stood up their 4th Battalion.
Captain Riley has 17 years of prior enlisted service which encompassed 3rd Ranger Battalion, a Special Missions Unit, and five years as a team leader with 56th Chemical Reconnaissance Detachment, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) with which he deployed to Iraq with on four occasions. He was promoted to Captain in 2011 while attending the CBRN Captain’s Career Course and was then assigned to 1st Information Operations Command where he deployed to Afghanistan as a joint planner for 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion.
In all Captain Riley has five combat tours under Operation Iraqi Freedom, one combat tour to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Joint Combined Exercises for Training in Germany, Panama, Guam, and Croatia. George was accepted in December 2015 into the Human Exploitation Rescue Operative joint venture between Homeland Security and Special Operations Command as an intern. He has completed 11 weeks of intense forensics training at the Homeland Security Cyber Crimes Center in Fairfax, Virginia and is currently undergoing a 10 month internship with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while he awaits military medical retirement.
His decorations include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with Six Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (with Eight Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Recruiting Badge.
CPT Riley’s military schooling includes Primary Leadership Development Class, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Ranger Team Leader Course, Survival Escape Resistance Evasion Anti-Terrorism level A course, Jumpmaster Course, Pathfinder Course, Officer Candidate School, Chemical Officer Basic Course, and the Chemical Captains Career Course.
He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Resource Management from Troy State University, a Master’s of Science in Biotechnology and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Maryland and he is two classes from a Master’s of Divinity from Liberty University.
He is married to the former Kimberly Zoroiwchak of Erial, New Jersey and they have three children Joshua (23), Kevin (19), and Kaiti (9).
